勉强(強) miǎnqiǎng

(=尽力) push oneself hard
- 做事不要太勉强(強)。 Zuòshì bùyào tài miǎnqiǎng. Don't push yourself too hard.
- 身体(體)不好,做事就不要太勉强(強)。 Shēntǐ bù hǎo,zuòshì jiù bùyào tài miǎnqiǎng. If your health is not good, don't push yourself too hard.
2 (=强迫) force
- 不要勉强(強)孩子学(學)钢(鋼)琴。 Bùyào miǎnqiǎng háizi xué gāngqín. Don't force the child to study the piano.
- 孩子不想学(學)钢(鋼)琴,就不要勉强(強)他。 Háizi bù xiǎng xué gāngqín,jiù bùyào miǎnqiǎng tā. If the child does not want to study the piano, don't force him.

(=不情愿) reluctant
- 我让(讓)他帮忙, 他勉强(強)答应(應)了。 Wǒ ràng tā bāngmáng, tā miǎnqiǎng dāying le. I asked him to help, and he reluctantly agreed.

(=凑合) barely enough
- 他挣(掙)的钱(錢)勉强(強)够(夠)自己花。 Tā zhèng de qián miǎnqiǎng gòu zìjǐ huā. The money he earned was barely enough to support himself.

(=牵强) far-fetched
- 这(這)个(個)理论(論)有点(點)勉强(強)。 Zhège lǐlùn yǒudiǎn miǎnqiǎng. This theory is a bit far-fetched.
