- Chemistrya white, translucent, lumpy, very slightly water-soluble, solid terpene alcohol, C10H18O, occurring in various isomeric forms, having a burning, mintlike taste, obtained from the trunk of a tree, Dryobalanops aromatica, or by the reduction of camphor: used in the form of its esters in the manufacture of synthetic camphor and in perfumery. Also called Bor′neo cam′phor, bornyl alcohol, camphol, Malayan camphor, Sumatra camphor.
